Okinawa.4

Chasing Sakura in the mountains.

It was cold and windy. Not a good day to be near the ocean. In Okinawa, anywhere you go, you would not be far off the coast. I braved the wind and stepped out to the beach. It was quiet only the sound of the waves filled the air. I followed the waterline until my legs got tired and the dark scary clouds told me to leave the beach. The sea garbage was all over the shore; a sad view of human’s irresponsible behaviour.

By 9am ( it seems this is the best time to leave) we set out to explore Okinawa once more.

Kouri Island

everyone seems to stay in today

Nakijin-jo Site

Nakijin holds a painful past that the locals keep to themselves. Once this place had a castle where their community resided. A huge compound secured from all sides by a mountain and deep valley. Much later in WWII the Americans came ashore and took over. And they stay on until today.

Yaedake is located in the mountain and the sakura has started to bloom. The unexpected cold weather has distorted the full blooms. We just make do with what we found and it was indeed beautiful.

The day ended well and got back late in the afternoon. Finished the day with nice soba noodles, salad and a cup of tea. My wife cooked. Alhamdulillah.
