Okinawa.3-1

our place last night

By 9 am we checked out. The room was nice and cosy; I have no complaint. We are going north today to Okinawa Chiraumi Aquarium about 17 km from our present location. The drive was pleasant as the sun started to show up and traffics weren’t that bad.

Cape Manzamo

On the way we stopped at Cape Manzamo . A nice place for photo shoots. That’s the thing for young people today; posing for instagram or tik tok. Using all kind of photo gadgets and all kind of posing that I don’t really get it. But it’s their thing and space ;I don’t want to bother.

This place is on the edge of a cliff overlooking a vast Pacific Ocean; so it’s beautiful indeed. But ….. for 100 yen you walked around for half an hour and come back with some souvenirs worth more than 1000 yen. Good business or what!

Our main story today is about the aquarium located in a massive  Ocean Expo Park. The queue to the car park was already long when we arrived but like everything else in Japan you , as a customer, will get what you came for. A nice space for your car, a place to eat (in our case a bench for a lunch picnic)and a full access to your main agenda—— no one will be disappointed, they will do whatever they can to make you comfortable. And we did enjoy the place even with thousands of people around us. And the toilets remain clean and easily accessible(no queue to pee) at all time. So we paid rm60 each to get in and it worth every single cent of it.

Ocean Expo Park

Ironically, a 60-year old man like me was still fascinated by a moving fish behind the glass like many little children that came today. Aquarium is for kids, so I thought. But this aquarium is at another level in bringing marine life up close. At times I just could not believe my eyes. Yesterday I saw whales swimming majestically nearby and today I saw a whale shark behind huge glass walls. I guess she was the main attraction and everyone came just to see her. Including myself.

Dory
Gill

Immediately, I recognised the gang from Finding Nemo : Marlin – Clownfish (father of Nemo),Nemo – Clownfish (Marlin’s son),Dory – Blue tang (with short-term memory loss),Gill – Moorish idol (leader of the Tank Gang),Bloat – Porcupine pufferfish (in the dentist’s tank),Peach – Starfish (not a fish, but a tank inhabitant – often included in fish lists) etc.

My favourite was Gill a fish of type Moorish idol voiced by Willem Dafoe.

and of course, the dolphin show.
