Cappadocia

Sunset
What a beautiful sky.

This is one strange place where people live in caves like birds nests in the cliffs. The rock formations ( called ferry chimney) stood 30-40 meters high were dug out to make living cells. And they are all over this whole area like a valley in the middle of a mountainous landscape. In order to appreciate it, you have to be airborne in a hot air ballon.

Cappadocia refers to “the land of wild horses”.once this place was on the Silk Road and traders would stop to rest. Due to its remoteness, orthodox priests also built monasteries to isolate themselves. So the population grew and deserted mountains had become a place to live. But the town isn’t growing or expanding anymore and the population stands at 5000 residents. The place is said to be harsh—- too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. But tourists come to ride the balloons and has become the important part of Cappadocia economy.
